Improving the quantity and quality of life for all
The Sport, Exercise Medicine and Lifestyle Institute (SEMLI) at the University of Pretoria, was established in June 2015 under the directorship of Prof Martin Schwellnus, Professor of Sport and Exercise Medicine and specialist sport and exercise medicine physician.
SEMLI is a Research Institute which therefore prioritises research, education and training. What makes SEMLI a unique research institute, is that it also provides scientific and clinical consultancy services to the public, national and international athletes, UP staff and student athletes, and students at the TuksSport high school.
Reducing risks
Supporting success
SEMLI’s work contributes to reducing the burden of chronic diseases and health care costs, reducing the risk of illness, injury and medical complications during physical activity, improving regional, national and international sporting success, and improving the quantity and quality of life of individuals.
